San Diego weather is great year-round, but we really shine in the winter time, when other locales are digging out from the snow and ice. We enjoy great weather in the winter, so there are no limitations on continuing outdoor activities in January.
We love the Go San Diego Card. You can buy a card for a day pass, or up to 7 days for varying prices. The pass gets you into 35 San Diego area attractions, which can be a good deal if you plan to stay awhile and see the best winter attractions San Diego has to offer. Some of the attractions included in the pass are:
- SeaWorld San Diego
- San Diego Zoo
- USS Midway Museum
- Knott’s Berry Farm
- Birch Aquarium
- Bike and Kayak Tours La Jolla
- Bike and Kayak Tours Coronado
- San Diego Natural History Museum
- San Diego Automotive Museum
- Japanese Friendship Garden
Here are a few attractions that may catch your attention.
The USS Midway Museum
The USS Midway is anchored in the Navy Pier port, and is the longest-serving aircraft carrier in United States history. When you walk onto the USS Midway you are walking onto a floating city, and following the footsteps of more than 225,000 Midway sailors who served our country. The Midway has more than 60 exhibits to explore, along with 29 restored aircraft.
Glimpse These Intrepid Travelers
Winter is the best time of year to go whale watching, and San Diego is a great place to catch a glimpse of these intrepid travelers. The whales migrate this time each year from the Bering Sea to Baja, California, a distance of almost 3500 miles! You are likely to see them, as there are more than 20,000 gray whales that will pass through the waters off the San Diego coast. Whales are the big show, no doubt, but you can also see dolphins, sea lions and migrating birds. There are cruises that will take you where the action is going on!
La Jolla Activities
La Jolla joins San Diego in having a lot of opportunities to be out and about during the winter. This seaside community has beautiful cliffs close to sandy beaches, so there is something for everyone to do. You can take your bike and ride along the streets, or you can snorkel in La Jolla Cove. Kayakers can get their thrills along the coastline as they may get a glimpse of the sea lions taking a sun bath on the beach.
What is it about sunsets in the wintertime? The angle of the sun makes the sunsets even more spectacular this time of year. Take a picnic and head out to Sunset Cliffs National Park and catch a gorgeous sun setting over the Pacific Ocean. If you drive up to Mount Soledad Veterans Memorial you can see the sun set along with the beautiful San Diego skyline. Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve will give you an eye-full of an oceanside sunset as well.
At Richard Realty, we think San Diego is a piece of heaven on earth. We’d love to show you what this area has to offer, so call us for information on properties in our area for sale. Come here, and you won’t want to go back to shoveling snow anytime soon!
