It would be a crying shame to live in the San Diego area and not like your veggies. This area of the country is a veggie basket cornucopia. If you live in North County San Diego, you have access to it all: from pattypan squash to heirloom tomatoes to organic kale. You’ve heard so much about farm-to-table. Home chefs want the best, freshest, organic produce, and in the San Diego area, you can find that any day of the week. We have several farmers’ markets that you need to know about in order to get your creative culinary juices flowing… after all, dinner is just a few hours away!

In case you didn’t know, farmers’ markets are strictly governed by the County Agriculture Commissioner. The people in the Commissioner’s office make sure that what is being sold is actually grown in our state and meets all California quality standards.

You may have heard that it’s not good form to go to the grocery store hungry, because you will over-buy. Hey, we’re tossing that advice out the window when it comes to our local farmers’ markets because many markets have vendors who offer fabulous veggie food and drink for sale. Roasted corn, anyone? How about locally sourced honey to go on a slice of that freshly-baked artisan bread. Yeah, now we’re talking! Other vendors can outfit you with handcrafted jewelry, gorgeous linens, handmade soaps and other treasures.
